Pro tip: If you’ve arrived here via a link aggregator, feel free to skip ahead to the Summary for a conveniently digestible tl;dr that spares you all the tedious details, yet still provides enough ammunition to trash-talk this post in the comments of whatever platform you stumbled upon it.
I like it, and thought of stealing it. The phrase. However, it feels like I cannot be bothered to truly give a — what’s the polite word? — I mean, I don’t mind others thrashing on my blog posts. I’m too long on the internet.
The original post — A Word on Omarchy — is quite good. Flagged on this idiotic hacker news (search the page for the word ‘flagged’), obviously. Not even surprised.
Omwhat?
The name Omarchy appears to be a portmanteau of Arch, the Linux distribution that Hansson’s configuration is based upon, and お任せ, which translates to omakase and means to leave something up to someone else (任せる, makaseru, to entrust). When ordering omakase in a restaurant, you’re leaving it up to the chef to serve you whatever they think is best. Oma(kase) + (A)rch + y is supposedly where the name comes from.
This was a fantastic overview of what Omarchy is, and I’m so happy I was able to fully understand its details! I did not expect it, truly! But hey, I’m using Arch for over six years now, almost daily.
Almost, because due to being a father of two kids, sometimes there are days I don’t touch my computer, at all.
This is just funny!
To all evidence, the creator of Omarchy has no such concern. They were all-in on Windows last year, then a couple months later it was Omakub. About a year later, it was this thing. It seems there’s a good chance they’ll be on to the next new shiny thing before they have to worry much about maintaining this one.
